The Bulldogs defeat St. Andrews 33-6

Barbourville, Ky. – Union football picked up a 27-point conference win on Saturday against St. Andrews. The opening drive of the matchup resulted in a touchdown for the Knights, but St. Andrews was shutout for the remainder of the matchup as Union would go on to score 33 unanswered points en route to the win.

On Union's opening possession, the Bulldogs tied the game with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Walker Russell to Chris Thomas.

With 4:08 to play in the second quarter, the Bulldogs took the lead with a 27-yard TD pass from Russell to Tony Norman. Union extended its lead before halftime with a 28-yard field goal by Dustin Brown. At the half, the Bulldogs led 16-6.

Union received the football to begin the second half. That drive resulted in a 29-yard field goal by Brown to give Union a 19-6 lead with 13:32 to play in the third quarter.

With 6:39 to play in the third quarter, the connection of Russell and Norman once again resulted in a Union TD. This time, it was an 18-yard touchdown pass that gave the Bulldogs a 26-6 lead.

Union's Taji Jackson registered a 59-yard touchdown run with 2:50 remaining in the third quarter as the Bulldogs went on to win the game 33-6. The victory marks Union's first conference win in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). This is the second season of AAC football.

The Bulldogs are now 2-4 (1-1 AAC) this season, while St. Andrews is 0-5 (0-2 AAC). Both of Union's wins this season have been by a 27-point margin as the Bulldogs won 27-0 at Cumberland (Tenn.) in Union's season opener.

Union's Homecoming game is up next for the Bulldogs as they will host Point on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 4:00 p.m.
