Union falls short at Pikeville

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union College football team fell short on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Pikeville. The matchup marked the first conference game of the season for each team.

Towards the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs recorded a 10-play, 60-yard drive that was capped off with a 32-yard field goal by Dustin Brown. The drive started with a 20-yard pass from quarterback Walker Russell to WR Tony Norman.

Pikeville added to its lead in the second quarter, and led 35-3 at halftime. In the fourth quarter, Union registered an eight-play, 72-yard drive that resulted in a two-yard touchdown run for QB Bryson Grabowski.

That drive featured a 27-yard run by Grabowski to go along with a 31-yard pass from Grabowski to receiver Wyatt Rutgerson. Pikeville went on to win the game 52-10.

The Bulldogs recorded 335 total yards of offense, while Pikeville's passing attack had a record-setting performance. Union threw for 205 yards. Norman led the Bulldogs in receiving with six catches for 68 yards. Jayden Ward led Union in rushing yards with 59 off 14 carries.

Union is now 1-4 (0-1 AAC) this season, while the Bears are 3-2 (1-0 AAC). Up next for the Bulldogs is a home conference game against St. Andrews on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 1:30 p.m.
