Union falls short at UVA Wise

Wise, Va. – The Union College football team opened its 2023 season last week with a 27-0 win at Cumberland (Tenn.) In their second game of the season, the Bulldogs fell short in an away matchup against NCAA Division II opponent UVA Wise on Saturday, Sept. 2.

UVA Wise scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the game. Union's offense responded with an eight play, 58-yard drive that featured a 31-yard pass from Walker Russell to Chris Thomas. Ultimately, the drive did not result in points.

The Cavaliers were held to just six points on their next three possessions, but UVA Wise led 20-0 at halftime.

UVA Wise tallied four touchdowns in the second half, which included an interception returned for a TD and a fumble returned for a touchdown. Union fell to the Cavaliers by a final score of 48-0.

Up next for the Bulldogs is a home game against Cumberlands on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 7:00 p.m.
