Tramonte Gardner named AAC Defensive Player of the Week

Barbourville, Ky. – Union linebacker Tramonte Gardner has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Defensive Player of the Week.

Gardner led the team in total tackles with 11, while also recording a team-leading two pass breakups in the Bulldogs' 27-0 win at Cumberland (Tenn.) He also registered a QB hurry.

On Cumberland's first offensive play of the game, a deflected pass by Gardner resulted in an interception for Union. The Bulldogs began the possession in Cumberland territory.

"Man, that's awesome," head coach John Luttrell said. "Tramonte is an all-conference player. Not only his stats, but the things you can't see on the stat line. His effort; the way he chases down plays. Just constantly giving max effort out there, and I couldn't be happier for the young man. I think it's well deserved, and I think honestly; there's going to be more of those to come for him."

The Bulldogs' next game will be played on Saturday, Sept. 2, at UVA Wise. That matchup is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
