Barbourville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University baseball team wrapped up their conference series against No. 4 Tennessee Wesleyan on Sunday. UCU fell 11-4 in game one and 13-5 in game two.
Game One
The Bulldogs tallied three hits in game one, two of which were extra-base hits. Aaron Barrera led the offense, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Brysen Vernon recorded the team's third hit. Jayden Gonzalez, Barrera, Ernesto Moreno, and Gunnar Kale each crossed the plate for Union, scoring one run apiece.
Barrera launched a home run and drove in two runs, while Vernon added a double and an RBI. Cooper Tomkinson also chipped in with an RBI. On the bases, Max Charlton and Jonathan Miles each stole one bag.
Logan Romasanta got the start for the Bulldogs, throwing four innings and recording one strikeout. Ethan Warren came on in relief, pitching five innings and striking out two.
Game Two
Aaron Barrera, Carter Shinavier, and Ernesto Moreno each went 1-for-1 at the plate, while Jonathan Miles and Max Charlton finished 1-for-2. Miles, Raebert De Los Santos, Logan Romasanta, Shinavier, and Moreno each scored one run for Union.
Moreno and Charlton both drove in two runs, with Ryan Brown adding an RBI of his own.
Nine different pitchers took the mound for the Bulldogs. Evan Hiatt made the start, with Dylan Hetzler, Nathan Van Beek, Jackson Clark, Grayson Makanyi, Dalton Kottmer, Christian McCollough, Cameron Schuster, and Tanner Hayes all seeing action in relief. Together, the staff combined for seven strikeouts.
The Bulldogs are now 17-31 (9-20 AAC) this season, while No. 4 Tennessee Wesleyan is 38-11 (23-7 AAC).
