Union baseball drops game one against No. 4 Tennessee Wesleyan

Athens, Tenn. - The Union Commonwealth University baseball team kicked off the first game of its three-game conference series against No. 4 Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday. The Bulldogs fell 19-4.

Max Charlton and Brendan Hillis led the Bulldogs offensively, each going 2-for-4 at the plate and combining for four of Union's nine total hits. Jayden Gonzalez, Raebert De Los Santos, Ernesto Moreno, Tucker Allen, and Brysen Vernon each added a hit to round out the team's offensive effort.

Hillis crossed the plate twice, while Charlton and De Los Santos each scored once. De Los Santos also drove in two runs, and Moreno added an RBI of his own. The Bulldogs tallied two extra-base hits in the contest — a home run from De Los Santos and a double from Vernon.

Hillis also notched the team's only stolen base of the game.

On the mound, Evan Hiatt got the start for Union. He was followed by appearances from Ethan Warren, Logan Romasanta, Dalton Kottmer, and Braylon Greene. Together, the pitching staff recorded four strikeouts in the outing.

The Bulldogs are now 17-29 (9-18 AAC) this season, while No. 4 Tennessee Wesleyan is 36-11 (21-7 AAC). UCU closes out the series with TWU with the final two games set for Sunday, April 27, at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
