
Union baseball drops final game of series against Montreat

Barbourville. Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University baseball team wrapped up its three-game conference series against Montreat on Sunday. Despite falling 16-8 in the finale, the Bulldogs still came away with the series win, 2-1.
The Bulldogs tallied 13 hits in the game, with Brendan Hillis leading the charge. Hillis went 4-for-5 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in one.
Raebert De Los Santos collected two hits, while Gunnar Kale, Ernesto Moreno, Aaron Barrera, Brysen Vernon, Isaiah Pintor, Cooper Tomkinson, and Max Charlton each chipped in with a hit of their own. Jonathan Miles scored twice, while Jayden Gonzalez, Moreno, De Los Santos, and Pintor each crossed the plate once.
De Los Santos, Tomkinson, and Charlton drove in two runs apiece, with Barrera adding one RBI. Hillis and De Los Santos also notched doubles. On the basepaths, Miles, Pintor, and Tomkinson each swiped a base.
Jackson Clark got the start on the mound, tossing three innings and striking out five. Dylan Hetzler followed with three innings of relief, adding four strikeouts. Dalton Kottmer, Tucker Allen, and Logan Romasanta also made appearances. The trio combined for three strikeouts, while Allen and Romasanta did not allow a hit or a run during their time on the hill.
The Bulldogs are now 16-25 (8-15 AAC) this season, while Montreat is 17-26 (9-15 AAC). Next for Union is an away matchup at No. 9 Cumberlands on Tuesday, April 15, at 3:00p.m.
