UCU sweeps Montreat in doubleheader; Warren, Hiatt deliver shutouts

Barbourville, Ky. - Union Commonwealth University opened its series against Montreat with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, taking game one 1-0 and securing a 2-0 victory in game two.
Game One
The Bulldogs tallied three hits in game one, highlighted by a walk-off single from Max Charlton to seal the 1-0 victory. Jayden Gonzalez, Brendan Hillis, and Raebert De Los Santos each notched a hit, with Hillis and De Los Santos both recording doubles. Hillis also swiped a base in the effort.
Jonathan Miles scored the game's lone run, while Charlton delivered the game-winning RBI.
On the mound, Ethan Warren threw a complete-game shutout. He struck out eight, allowed just four hits, and issued only two walks over 33 batters faced.
Game Two
Gunnar Kale led the charge at the plate, turning in a perfect 2-for-2 performance. Brendan Hillis and Tucker Allen each added a hit, while Jonathan Miles and Ernesto Moreno crossed the plate to score the Bulldogs' two runs. Hillis accounted for both RBIs in the contest.
Miles also added a stolen base to his stat line.
On the mound, Evan Hiatt delivered Union Commonwealth's second shutout of the day. He struck out six, surrendered just three hits, and kept a clean sheet defensively.
The Bulldogs are now 16-24 (8-14 AAC) this season, while Montreat is 16-26 (8-15 AAC). UCU closes out the series with Montreat with the final game set for Sunday, April 13, at 12:00 p.m.
