Midway, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University baseball team hit the road for a doubleheader at Midway on Tuesday, where the Bulldogs fell 12-5 in game one before dropping the second matchup 10-2.
Game One
Cooper Tomkinson had a perfect outing at the plate, going 2-for-2, while Jayden Gonzalez and Aaron Barrera each went 2-for-3 in the opening matchup. Hunter Pinkston, Brendan Hillis, Raebert De Los Santos, and Nick Seelman each contributed a hit.
Pinkston, Gonzalez, Hillis, Santos, and Seelman all crossed the plate once, accounting for the Bulldogs' five runs. The team tallied three RBIs, with Gonzalez, De Los Santos, and Hillis each driving in one.
Extra-base hits played a role in the offense, as Pinkston, Gonzalez, and Hillis each connected for a double.
On the mound, Nathan Van Beek got the start for the Bulldogs, pitching three innings and recording three strikeouts. Eli Sizemore, Braylon Green, and Tucker Allen also saw time in relief, with Green adding a strikeout to the stat sheet.
Game Two
Pinkston led the Bulldogs at the plate in game two, going 3-for-4. Gonzalez, Seelman, Santos, and Brysen Vernon each added a hit. Pinkston and Gonzalez also crossed the plate for a run apiece.
Seelman provided both RBIs for the Bulldogs, while De Los Santos notched a double. Pinkston stole two bases, while Logan Romasanta and Gunnar Kale each stole one.
Grayson Makranyi got the start on the mound, striking out two. Tanner Hayes, Gunner Bleha, and Christian McCollough also took the mound, with Bleha and McCollough each recording a strikeout.
The Bulldogs are now 8-15 this season, while Midway is 9-11. Up next for Union is an away conference matchup at Reinhardt on Thursday, March 13, at 4:00 p.m.
