Union baseball sweeps UC Clermont in three-game series

Barbourville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University baseball team clinched a series sweep over UC Clermont on Sunday. 

They secured back-to-back victories in games two and three. The Bulldogs had a 7-2 win before earning a close 8-7 victory to complete the sweep.

Game One:

Isaiah Pintor and Ernesto Moreno each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Moreno drove in two runs and scored twice, while Pintor crossed the plate once. Brysen Vernon, Tucker Allen, Ryan Brown, and Cooper Tomkinson all contributed with a hit apiece. 

Brown led the team with three RBIs, while Vernon and Tomkinson each drove in one. Allen scored twice, while Vernon and Brown each added a run.

Pintor, Moreno, and Allen each hit a double, while Moreno and Brown both hit a home run apiece—Moreno's second of the season. 

Logan Romasanta earned the win as the game one starter, striking out three over two innings. Jackson Clark, Cameron Schuster, and Nathan Van Beek also took the mound for the Bulldogs, each recording two strikeouts.

Game Two:

Allen and Brendan Hillis both went 2-for-3, while Allen drove in two runs and scored twice. Hillis also had one RBI and two runs. Moreno, Tomkinson, and Hunter Pinkston each had a hit. 

Tomkinson and Pinkston drove in two runs apiece, while Gunnar Kale added one RBI. Moreno scored twice, with Romasanta and Max Charlton each recorded a run.

Eli Sizemore earned the win for the Bulldogs, with Tanner Hayes picking up his first save. Dalton Kottmer started on the mound, while Christian McCollough and Braylon Greene pitched in relief. Sizemore struck out two, while Kottmer and McCollough each had one.

The Bulldogs are now 4-3 this season, while UC Clermont is 0-3. Up next for Union is a conference matchup against St. Andrews on Friday, Feb. 14, at 1:00 p.m.
