No. 10 Union wins 15-3 in seven innings over No. 3 Pikeville in AAC Tournament

Kingsport, Tenn. – The No. 10 Union Commonwealth University Bulldogs defeated No. 3 Pikeville on Thursday morning in the AAC Tournament.

With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Union's Mason Kelley recorded a two-run home run to left field. With one out in the top of the second with one out, Ernesto Moreno scored off a ground out RBI by Luke Pell.

Later in the side, Seth Keener scored for Union off an RBI single by Sebastian Flores. The Bulldogs led 4-0 after two innings. Union extended its lead in the top of the third. Sammy Serrano connected on a two-RBI double that scored Moreno and Kelley.

On the ensuing at bat, Serrano scored off an RBI single by Luke Pell. The Bulldogs led 7-0 after the top of the third inning. Pikeville scored one run in the bottom of the inning, but Union answered back in the top of the fourth when Moreno hit a two-RBI single that scored Kelley and Romasanta.

The Bulldogs led 9-1 after the top of the fourth inning. Pikeville scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Union's offensive performance continued in the top of the sixth inning.

Kelley scored the first run of the sixth for Union. An RBI single by Pell scored Nathan McCabe. Serrano scored off an RBI single by Barrera. An RBI ground out by Stegman scored Pell. Keener would score off an RBI double by Flores. Union led 14-3 after six innings.

In the top of the seventh, Union's lead was extended when Kelley hit a solo homer. Union won 15-3 in seven innings. Pikeville was eliminated from the AAC Tournament.

Carter Finlay was the winning pitcher. Finlay pitched 2.1 innings, while allowing no earned runs. Dylan Hetzler pitched 4.2 innings, while allowing six hits. Kelley led all players with four hits, while Pell registered three hits. Kelley led all players with five runs scored.

Union is now 20-28 this season, while Pikeville is 30-19. Up next for the Bulldogs is a game against either No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan or No. 6 Montreat. That matchup will be on Friday, May 3, at 9:00 a.m.
