Union baseball falls 8-3 at Northern Kentucky

Highland Heights, Ky. - On Tuesday, the Union Commonwealth University baseball team played at NCAA Division I opponent Northern Kentucky University.

The game began with NKU swiftly taking control by securing an early 5-0 lead within the first two innings.

It wasn't until the top of the fifth inning that Logan Romasanta ignited a spark for the Bulldogs by delivering their first hit of the game with a single to center field.

As the game progressed, NKU added another run in the bottom of the sixth, which extended its lead to 6-0.

In the top of the seventh, pinch hitter Seth Keener kickstarted a rally with a single. On the next at bat, pinch hitter Jafari Williams tallied an RBI double that scored Keener.

The momentum continued to build on the ensuing at bat as pinch hitter Ernesto Moreno blasted a two-run homer, which narrowed the deficit to 6-3.

NKU responded swiftly by tacking on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth en route to an 8-3 win in nine innings.

 

Zach Moore, Evan Hiatt, Braylon Greene, Dylan Hetzler, Carlos Soto, Christian McCollough, Grayson Makranyi, Dalton Kottmer, Hunter Rossi, and Ethan Warren each made an appearance on the mound.

McCollough collected two strikeouts. Moore, Hiatt, Makranyi, Kottmer, and Warren each collected one. Moreno led the way offensively going one-for-one with the two-run homer.

 

The Bulldogs are now 17-22 this season, while Northern Kentucky is 23-13. Up next for Union is a home conference series against Pikeville. The first game of that series is slated for Friday, April 19, at 3:00 p.m.
