Union scores 25 runs to defeat Alice Lloyd in seven innings

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union College baseball team played one nine-inning game against Alice Lloyd on Tuesday. Union dominated offensively as the Bulldogs won 25-6 in only seven innings.

The Bulldogs dominated from the first pitch as their offense igniting in the opening inning. Colton Stegman was walked to begin the bottom of the first, while Logan Romasanta was walked later in the side.

Mason Kelley then hit a three-run home run to give the Bulldogs an early 3-0 lead. Luke Pell kept things going with a single; followed by him stealing second.

Alberto Johnson then got on by a walk in the next at bat. On the next play, Pell advanced to third on a pop-up. Tyler Bean then reached first on an error, which scored Pell. Jackson Holcombe followed with a two-RBI double that scored Johnson and Bean.

As the lineup circled back, Stegman hit an RBI single to extend the Bulldogs' commanding lead to 7-0. Despite a brief response from the Eagles in the top of the second inning, the Bulldogs' offense remained relentless.

Kelley's leadoff single sparked another rally as Pell followed with a two-run home run. Johnson and Bean kept the bases busy with their hits, while Holcombe's single loaded them once more. Stegman's single brought in two more runs.

The bases were loaded once again when Ernesto Moreno was hit by a pitch. Romasanta then hit a sacrifice fly to score Seth Keener. Kelley was walked on the next at bat to load the bases once more. Pell was then walked, which scored Stegman. The score was extended to 13-2 after two innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, Stegman led things off with a double. He would advance to third on a passed ball. Moreno was then walked. Moreno also advanced on a passed ball, while Stegman scored. Romasanta then reached first on a walk.

Kelley followed with a single to load the bases. Pell then reached first on an error that scored Moreno. Nick Seelman followed with an RBI single to score Romasanta. Bean was walked on the next at bat, which scored Kelley.

The Bulldogs scored two more runs off a walk and a hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded, Romasanta hit an RBI single. Kelley followed with an RBI single.

On the ensuing at bat, Pell followed suit with a two-RBI single. Johnson kept things going with a two-RBI double to extend Union's lead to 25-2.

Alice Lloyd scored four more runs through the last three innings of the game. Ultimately, the Bulldogs won 25-6 in seven innings.

 

Offensively, Kelley went four-for-four with four RBIs and four runs scored. Stegman went three-for-three with four runs and four RBIs. Pell went three-for-four with four runs and six RBIs.

The Bulldogs collected 18 hits and 24 RBIs. They finished the game seven runs shy of breaking the program's single-game record, which was set in 1996. 

Grayson Makranyi, Ethan Warren, and Zach Moore all made an appearance on the mound in the matchup. Ethan Warren collected five strikeouts, while Moore had two and Makranyi had one.

Union is now 12-14 this season, while Alice Lloyd is 13-16. Up next for the Bulldogs is an away conference matchup against Truett McConnell on Friday, March 22. The first pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m.
