Union baseball falls to Georgetown in game one of a three-game series.

Georgetown, Ky. – The Union College baseball team played at Georgetown on Saturday in game one of a three-game series. The Bulldogs fell 4-2.

In the top of the second inning, Mason Kelley tallied a single in the first at bat. He followed up with a stolen base. Later in the side, Nathan McCabe got on base by a walk.

Sammy Serrano then delivered an RBI single that scored Kelley to give Union the early 1-0 lead. However, Georgetown countered with two scoring plays in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead. The Tigers extended their lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning.

The top of the seventh saw Luke Pell kickstart a potential comeback with a single, which was followed by a stolen base. Later in the side with two runners on base, Serrano hit a single that loaded the bases.

A sacrifice fly by Diego Clariot narrowed the deficit to 3-2, but the Bulldogs would leave two runners on base in the seventh. Georgetown managed to tack on another run in the bottom of the eighth to stretch its lead to 4-2.

In a last-ditch effort in the top of the ninth, Tyler Bean drew a walk. Pell then capitalized on an error by the second baseman to reach first base and advance Bean to second.

Colton Stegman's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third. Despite their efforts, the Bulldogs fell short 4-2.

Serrano led Union in hits going two-for-three at the plate with an RBI and a walk. On the mound, Carter Finlay, Dylan Hetzler, and Grayson Makranyi each made appearances. Finlay recorded five strikeouts, while Hetzler and Makranyi contributed three and two strikeouts respectively.

Union is now 7-8 this season, while Georgetown is 7-7. The series against Georgetown continues tomorrow with a doubleheader. The games are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
