The Bulldogs fall to Johnson in final game of series

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union College baseball team concluded its three-game conference series against Johnson with a hard-fought matchup that ultimately ended in a narrow 6-5 loss. Despite their efforts, Union finished the series with a 1-2 record against Johnson.

In the top of the first inning, Sebastian Flores started the offense with a lead-off single, which was followed by a single for Logan Romasanta's on the next at bat.

Tyler Bean capitalized on the opportunity with a sacrifice fly to center field to give Union an early 1-0 lead as Flores scored. The Bulldogs held onto this lead until the third inning.

A four-run homer for Johnson in the fourth inning gave the Royals a 5-1 lead. Going into the bottom of the ninth, Union trailed 6-1. Aaron Barrera kick-started a late-game rally with a single.

Colton Stegman's double on the next at bat advanced pinch runner Jafari Williams to third. On the ensuing at bat, Luke Pell's sacrifice grounder brought Williams home for the score.

Stegman would score on the next at bat off a sacrifice fly to center field by Sammy Serano. Diego Clariot's single kept the rally alive as Flores would hit a two-run homer on the next at bat to give the Bulldogs five runs. Despite their efforts, the Bulldogs fell 6-5.

On the mound, Ethan Warren, Christian McCollough, and Jackson Clark all made an appearance for the Bulldogs.

Warren delivered three strikeouts, while Clark threw two strikeouts and conceded zero hits. McCollough limited Johnson to just two hits during his time on the mound.

Offensively, Barrera went two-for-four, while Flores also went two-for-five with two runs and two RBIs.

 

Union is now 7-7 (2-4 AAC) this season, while Johnson is 10-5 (2-1 AAC).
