2024 Union archery season preview
Barbourville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University archery team begins its 2024 season on Friday in the 2024 USA Archery Collegiate 3D Regionals.
To preview the upcoming season, here is a Q&A session with head coach Robert Dunaway.
1. What are your expectations for this season?
I truly expect this team to achieve great things this year. I have a mostly young team with a lot of freshmen, but many of them are already very accomplished archers.
2. What goals have you set for your team?
The goals I've set for this team are the same as always: practice hard, have fun, and most importantly, go to class and get good grades.
3. What strengths do you see in your team this year?
This year's team has the best camaraderie I've seen since becoming head coach. They work very well together, and I have athletes in every division who could take first place at any tournament we participate in.
4. Which returning players are you most excited about?
I expect big things from several of my returning athletes. Evan Miller is posting his highest scores to date in practice, along with Ruthie Masengale and Taylor Gwynette. Chase Herndon and Ashley Coffing are also back and, as always, performing very strongly.
5. Are there any newcomers or transfers who you believe could make a significant impact this season?
I have several freshmen I'm very excited about. Danica Wiseman, Ava Noehre, and Kapt Brandt are going to cause trouble for the other teams. I also expect Ryker Jordan and Mary Jane Ellis to make a big impact as well.
