Bio

Clay Butler is the Director of Sports Medicine and Drug Education at Union College. A native of St. Cloud, Fla., Butler has many ties to Kentucky.

He was named as the head athletic trainer in 2006 after serving as an assistant since 2003. Butler was elevated to his current post during the summer of 2011.

He came to Union the spring semester of 2002. Butler graduated in May of 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education, becoming his families third generation to do so.

In addition to working with collegiate athletics Butler has also worked in the National Football League. He worked as a student intern for two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. The summer of 2002 he was a student intern trainer for the Arizona Cardinals.

In 2005, Butler received his master’s degree from Union College in Health Education. 

Along with his duties as Director of Sports Medicine, he also teaches in the CAATE accredited athletic training program at Union College. 

Butler resides in Barbourville with his wife Andra and sons Hudson and Griffin.
