Brandt, Coffey make All-MSC First Team, Miller earns Second-Team honors

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Three Union Archers earned All-Conference recognition and the Bulldogs got a pair of gold medal performances on their way to a fourth-place finish at the Mid-South Outdoor Archery Championships, which concluded on Saturday.

Kyle Coffey and Lane Brandt were both MSC First-Team selections while Evan Miller was a Second-Team pick as well as Union's Champion Of Character selection, as the Bulldogs finished the weekend with 52 points. Cumberlands won a fifth straight MSC title with a score of 225.

In head-to-head competition, Brandt captured first place in the compound college men's division, defeating Ben Fannin 144-139 in the final round. Coffey was victorious in barebow college men, topping Nathaniel Bush 6-2 in the final round.

In team competition, Brandt joined Chase Herndon and Jacob Newby for a win in college compound men play. The trio defeated Jared Laux, Blaine Kostrzewski and Jacob Starnes of Cumberlands 236-232 in the finals.

Miller took third in the fixed pins college men, defeating Shane Adams 143-140 in the consolation final.

Coffey, Brandt and Miller also had top-three finishes in ranking rounds. Coffey was second in barebow (554 points), with Brandt (688) and Miller (661) taking third in compound and fixed pin respectively.

In the mixed team rounds, Brandt and Rachel Flack took second in compound, with Miller and Ruthie Masengale taking fourth in mixed pin.

Elsewhere in the team rounds, Flack, Jalyn Sharpe and Ashley Coffing were third among compound college women, with Masengale, Savannah King and Abigail Ward finishing fourth in fixed pin college women competition.

The Bulldogs are off until May 17, when they will conclude the season by traveling to Statesboro, Ga. for the five-day FITA Nationals.
