Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University volleyball team hosted Montreat on Saturday. The Bulldogs won 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 23-25, 28-26). With the victory, the Bulldogs have won six games in a row.
Emily Shumaker led all players in kills with 17. Berkli Benefield tallied 10 kills, while Katherine Acosta recorded six and Luisa Slompo registered five.
Maddy McGaughey led UCU in assists with 23, while Sarah Charkosky tallied 12. Nicole Almestica led UCU in digs with 28.
Almestica was one of three Bulldogs to register double digit digs as McGaughey totaled 14, while Lara Gomes De Castro registered 13. Following the game, Almestica was recognized for surpassing 1,000 digs in her collegiate career.
"Good way to cap off our last full week of volleyball," UCU head coach Jeremy Wise said. "Good wins that will help us get a better seeding for the AAC Tournament where we will need to start quicker and finish quicker to keep the wins rolling."
The Bulldogs are now 14-16 (12-8 AAC) this season, while Montreat is 8-8 (8-8 AAC). Up next for UCU is a road conference game against Johnson on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
