UCU volleyball defeats Asbury in four sets

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University volleyball team picked up a home victory over Asbury on Friday night. The Bulldogs won 3-1 (16-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-17).

Emily Shumaker led Union in kills with seven, while Jasmine Porter and Raquel Kessler each registered five. Katherine Acosta, Talyn McCaslin, and Berkli Benefield combined to record 10 kills.

Maddy McGaughey led the Bulldogs in assist with 12, while Sloan Coursey totaled 11. Lara Gomes De Castro registered 14 digs, which led the team. Kessler, McGaughey, Benefield, and McKenna Pickett combined to record 23 digs.

The Bulldogs are now 2-7 this season, while Asbury is 3-2. Up next for UCU is a road conference match against Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m.
