The Bulldogs fall in both matches on Friday

Williamsburg, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University volleyball team played in two matches on Friday. The games were part of the Cumberlands Invite. The Bulldogs fell short in both matchups with the first game being against Keiser, while the second matchup was against William Carey.

 

First Game:

The Bulldogs fell to Keiser 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-10). UCU totaled 30 kills, while Keiser recorded 40. The Bulldogs had 44 digs, which was just six fewer than Keiser.

Raquel Kessler led Union in kills with 12, while Emily Shumaker accounted for nine. Berkli Benefield and Katherine Acosta combined to total seven kills. Maddy McGaughey led UCU in assists with 17, while Sloan Coursey recorded six.

McGaughey also led the Bulldogs in digs with 12, while Sydney Worde totaled nine. Kessler and Lara Gomes De Castro each recorded six digs, while Benefield and McKenna Pickett each registered three. The Bulldogs fell to 1-4 on the season, while Keiser advanced to 10-2.

 

Second Game:

Union fell short against William Carey 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-21). The Bulldogs totaled 24 kills and 39 digs. William Carey tallied 48 kills and 51 digs.

Kessler led Union in kills with seven, while Benefield totaled five. Shumaker registered four kills, while Acosta tallied three. McGaughey led the Bulldogs in assists with 10, while Coursey totaled seven. Kessler led UCU in digs with 12.

Coursey and McGaughey each recorded six digs. Worde, Gomes De Castro, Acosta, Benefield, and Lain Prather each totaled three digs. The Bulldogs fell to 1-5 on the season, while William Carey advanced to 7-2.

 

On Saturday, UCU will play against Northwestern Ohio at 5:30 p.m. with a matchup against Cumberlands slated for 7:30 p.m.
