Milligan, Tenn. – The Union Commonwealth University volleyball team played in two games on Saturday. The matchups took place in the Milligan Mountain Madness event. The Bulldogs defeated Shawnee State in three sets, but fell in five sets against Point.
First Game:
Union won the match against Shawnee State via a sweep 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-20). Raquel Kessler put together a tremendous performance with a game-leading 16 kills. Kessler was a First-Team All-AAC selection in each of the past two seasons. Jasmine Porter and Berkli Benefield each recorded eight kills.
Maddy McGaughey led all players in assists with 22, while Sloan Coursey totaled 14. Union's Sydney Worde accounted for 16 digs, which led all players by eight. Each team had an overall record of 1-2 on the season following the match.
Second Game:
UCU played in a competitive game, but Point won 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-8). The Bulldogs tallied 43 kills. Kessler, Katherine Acosta, and Emily Shumaker combined to register 37 kills. Kessler led all players with 18.
McGaughey and Coursey combined to total 32 assists as McGaughey led the team with 18. Kessler led UCU in digs with 13, while McGaughey and Lara Gomes De Castro each tallied 10. Coursey and Sydney Worde each registered eight digs. The Bulldogs fell to 1-3 on the season, while Point advanced to 3-1.
