Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University women's basketball team defeated Bluefield 76-52 on Wednesday. It marked the first conference game of the season for each team.
The Bulldogs were 28-57 from the floor, while holding Bluefield to 17-of-62. UCU was 13-of-26 from 3-PT range, while Bluefield was 3-of-18. Union won the rebounding battle 47-23, while tallying 22 assists compared to eight for Bluefield.
Gracie Jervis led all players in scoring with 19 points, while going 6-of-10 from 3-point range. Jervis also registered a game-leading seven assists to go with a game-leading two blocks.
Rachel Smith scored 18 points, while going 5-of-8 from 3-PT range. She also recorded six assists, five rebounds, and two steals. Madison Brady registered a double-double with 16 points and a game-leading 13 rebounds.
McKenzi Himes totaled 10 points to be one of four Bulldogs to score in double figures. Himes also tallied seven rebounds. Ja'Naia Moran recorded nine points, while Rayna Duzant and Lindsey Pirkle also scored for Union.
The Bulldogs are now 2-1 (1-0 AAC) this season, while Bluefield is 0-3 (0-1 AAC). Up next for Union is a road game against Coastal Carolina on Friday, Nov. 15, at 5:30 p.m.
