Bio

Coach Layton his college career by playing for Furman University. Following his time at Furman, he spent time with multiple junior colleges before finishing his playing career at the University of the Cumberlands. While at Cumberlands, the Patriots won Mid-South Conference title in 2021 and was a host for the NAIA Opening Round.

After his playing career, Layton returned to his hometown and began his coaching career at Pedro Menendez High School in St. Augustine, Fla. While at Pefro Menendez, he also worked in the private sector training athletes from the pro level down to middle school.

In his one year as the hitting coach at Pedro Menendez, the Falcons reached double digit wins for the first time in a decade, and won their first state playoff game in school history.

Following his year at Pedro, Layton was able to pursue a college coaching position at Georgia Southwestern State in Americus, Ga.

At GSW, Layton was in charge of the offense and helped lead the Hurricanes to their best team year in school history. They won the Peach Belt regular season conference title and conference tournament title for the first time in the NCAA era. The Hurrican offense went from a bottom of the conference offense to an offense that in 2023, was third in runs scored (374), third in triples (9), fourth in home runs (40), third in RBIs (321), tied for fourth in slugging percentage (.401%), and fourth in on base percentage (.384%).
