Pikeville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University baseball team wrapped up their conference series at Pikeville on Saturday. The Bulldogs dropped game one in a close 3-2 contest but bounced back with an 11-9 win in game two. Despite the split, UCU fell short in the series, 2-1.
Game One
The Bulldogs tallied seven hits in the matchup, led by Jayden Gonzalez and Aaron Barrera, who each went 2-for-4 at the plate. Max Charlton, Raebert De Los Santos, and Cooper Tomkinson each contributed a hit to round out UCU's offense.
Charlton and Tomkinson each crossed the plate for a run, while Gonzalez and Barrera recorded an RBI apiece.
Logan Romasanta got the start on the mound for the Bulldogs, striking out four in his outing. Dalton Kottmer and Cameron Schuster also saw time on the hill, with Kottomer adding another strikeout to the stat sheet.
Game Two
Union recorded 10 hits in game two. Jayden Gonzalez and Gunnar Kale each went 2-for-3, while Max Charlton finished 2-for-4. Aaron Barrera, Brendan Hillis, Nick Seelman, and Tucker Allen each added a hit.
Charlton and Brysen Vernon scored two runs each. Gonzalez, De Los Santos, Hillis, Seelman, Kale, Isaiah Pintor, and Allen each scored once.
Gonzalez led with five RBIs. Charlton and Kale added two apiece, and Barrera and Allen each had one. Charlton recorded a triple, while Gonzalez, Barrera, and Allen each hit a double. Seelman also stole a base.
Dylan Hetzler started on the mound for Union. Christian McCollough, Grayson Makranyi, Evan Hiatt, and Braylon Greene all pitched in relief.
The Bulldogs are now 17-28 (9-17 AAC) this season, while Pikeville is 26-19 (17-12 AAC). Next for Union is a home conference matchup against Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday, April 24, at 1:00p.m.
