Union baseball drops series opener against Truett McConnell

Barbourville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University baseball team opened its three-game conference series against Truett McConnell on Friday. The Bulldogs fell 18-6 in game one. 

Union tallied six hits in the matchup, with Jayden Gonzalez leading the way, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Brendan Hillis, Aaron Barrera, Hunter Pinkston, and Gunnar Kale each added one hit. 

Six Bulldogs crossed the plate, as Hillis, Gonzalez, Isaiah Pintor, Brysen Vernon, Nick Seelman, and Pinkston each scored a run. The team also recorded three RBIs, courtesy of Barrera, Vernon, and Kale.

Extra-base hits came from Gonzalez, who doubled, and Pinkston, who notched a triple. On the base paths, Pintor and Pinkston each swiped a stolen base.

Logan Romasanta got the start on the mound, with Tucker Allen and Jackson Clark providing relief. The Bulldogs' pitching staff combined for four strikeouts in the contest.

 

The Bulldogs are now 8-20 (1-11 AAC) this season, Truett McConnell is 8-19 (5-11 AAC). UCU closes out the series with Truett with the final two games set for Saturday, March 22, at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Union will celebrate Senior Day tomorrow, with the presentation beginning at 11:20 a.m.
