Bio

Bradley Charles was announced as the Director of Sports Communications at Union on Feb. 10, 2023.

Charles is a 2021 graduate of the University of Kentucky where he earned a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in coaching. He graduated from UK with a 4.0 GPA.

He became the Sports Information Director at Coahoma Community College in August of 2021, and held that role for approximately a year-and-a-half. As SID, Charles was the play-by-play broadcaster for CCC Athletics, wrote articles for coahomasports.com, operated the main social media accounts for Coahoma Athletics, created graphics & highlight videos, entered stats, etc.

Charles received four awards from the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi, which included a first-place finish in the Sports Feature Story category for two-year institutions in 2022.

Beginning in 2019, Charles spent two years as the head writer at Bluegrass Sports Nation. At BSN, he covered local high school athletics, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the UK football & men's basketball teams. He attended the 2023 AFC Championship Game as a credentialed media member for BSN.

Shortly after graduating from Powell County High School in 2017, he was named the primary play-by-play sports radio broadcaster for 103.7 WCBJ-FM in West Liberty, Ky. He held that role for four seasons, and now has seven years of experience as a play-by-play broadcaster.

For six months while enrolled at UK, he interned with the Field of 68 Media Network as a podcast producer for the Burner Turner Show. The podcast was hosted by UK Athletics Hall of Famer Wayne Turner, who played on the 1996 and 1998 UK men’s basketball national championship teams. The Field of 68 was founded by Jeff Goodman and Rob Dauster.

Charles was an official statistician at the 2024 Kentucky All "A" Classic Boy's and Girl's Basketball Tournaments. He worked 26 of the 30 total games as part of the tournament's official stat crew.

He was the color commentator for the Appalachian Athletic Conference's (AAC) official broadcast of its 2024 MBB & WBB Conference Championship Games.

Charles is a member of College Sports Communicators (CSC). In the 2023-24 CSC Creative & Digital Design Contest, Charles placed second in the NAIA in the Photo of the Year category. The picture that earned the honor was of Union football tight end Justin Barker catching a touchdown pass.

"I am excited to have this opportunity at Union College," Charles said in February of 2023. "I am happy to live within the beautiful mountains of Eastern Kentucky once again, and I look forward to promoting our talented student-athletes here at Union."

Charles lives in Barbourville.
