Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University softball team hosted Bryan on Tuesday in a conference doubleheader. The Bulldogs fell short in both matchups.
Game One:
UCU fell 5-2 in seven innings. Kaley Harris and Megan McGinley each tallied a team-leading two hits. Ryleigh Petrey registered a two-run homer in the second inning.
It marks Petrey's eighth homer of the season, which puts her tied for second in Union history for most home runs tallied by a Bulldog in an individual season.
She is tied with Makala Gore's output during the 2018 season, while Sarah Lowe leads with 11 homers in the 2024 season.
Katie Fister pitched the entire game for Union; allowing 11 hits and five earned runs.
Game Two:
The Bulldogs fell 7-4 in seven innings. Merritt tallied three hits, which led UCU in that category. Shaylin Lewis and Kaliana Pangallo each tallied two hits.
Pangallo led the Bulldogs with two runs scored. Union had two RBIs in the matchup; Lewis accounted for both.
Taylor Sain and Lily Marsh each pitched in the matchup for UCU. Marsh allowed three hits and one earned run in 2.2 innings pitched.
The Bulldogs are now 8-28 (6-18 AAC) this season, while Bryan is 28-12 (21-7 AAC). Up next for UCU is a home conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 23, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
