
Softball Ends Regular Season with a Twinbill Split at No. 15 Lindsey Wilson
COLUMBIA, Ky. – Union College softball ended the regular season with a twinbill split with No. 15 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on Friday.
The Bulldogs took the opener 12-5, but the hosts came back to claim the nightcap 9-5.
Union ends the regular season with a 17-25 overall record, while Lindsey Wilson is 32-12 on the year.
GAME 1 – UNION 12, LINDSEY WILSON 5
Union struck early and often, using a five-run seventh to seal the victory.
Up 2-1 in the fifth, Megan Merritt singled in a pair of runs to make it a 4-1 contest. She later scored on a Sara Lowe double for a four-run lead. Lindsey Wilson came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Taylor Whisonant lined a two-run single in the sixth to make it 7-3 Union.
The Blue Raiders kept fighting back, cutting the margin to 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-run home run. However, the Bulldogs put the finishing touches on the win with a five-run seventh. Hannah Johnson started the rally with a run-scoring single, and Shelby Easton lined a three-run double to make it 11-5. Whisonant collected her third RBI of the game with a sac fly, scoring Easton for the 12-5 outcome.
GAME 2 – LINDSEY WILSON 9, UNION 5
Lindsey Wilson came out of the gate hot in the finale, grabbing the early advantage. Union tried to rally but came up short.
The Blue Raiders scored twice in the first to take the early lead, but the Bulldogs came back with a run in each of the second and third innings to tie the game at 2-all. Jordan Daming singled in a run in the second, while Easton scored on a Paige Oldham sac fly in the third.
However, Lindsey Wilson countered with three runs in the third and four more in the fourth to open up a 9-2 cushion. Union mounted a rally in the seventh. Kayla Sain and Leea Cole each drove in a run to make it 9-4. Whisonant singled in a run to make it 9-5, but Cole was thrown out at the plate for the third out on the play, ending the game.
BULLDOG NOTES
- Merritt recorded her first save of the season in the game-one win. Oldham notched her eighth win of the year.
- With four RBI on the day, Whisonant is now tied with Sarah Lowe for the team lead as both have 25 on the season.
- Cole stole her team-leading 18th base. Heading into the season, the junior had only 10 stolen bases to her credit.

Union enters the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament as the No. 9 seed. Union will face No. 8 seed Columbia (S.C.) on Monday at 11 a.m.
