Union battles Columbia to scoreless draw

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Union Commonwealth University's men's soccer team 5-2-2, 4-0-2 AAC) tied with Columbia (3-3-2, 1-2-2 AAC) 0-0 on Sunday at Younts Stadium.

FIRST HALF: UNION COMMONWEALTH 0, COLUMBIA 0

Zak Hardman fired off two early chances in the first half, while Takuma Kiuchi added another attempt, but the Bulldogs were unable to break through. Union's defense held firm, keeping Columbia off the board as the Bulldogs outshot the Koalas 3-2 in the opening period. Goalkeeper Gabriel Mendez registered one save in the half.

SECOND HALF: UNION COMMONWEALTH 0, COLUMBIA 0

Both sides managed four shots in the second half, but Union finished with a 7-6 advantage overall. Each team placed two shots on frame, as the Bulldogs' back line held firm and denied Columbia throughout the 90 minutes. Union created steady pressure in the attack, with most of their chances coming after the break.

Hardman paced the Bulldogs with two attempts, while Kiuchi, Jordan Blake, Patrick Taylor, Laurin Fürmeier and Rocco Cimino each contributed one.

In goal, Mendoza recorded two saves.
